The third Kimberley Diamond Cup Grand Slam contest of 2014 took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The stadium was perfect for the setup as it had the smoothest ground any grand-slam event has had so far. Hundreds of skaters and spectators got to enjoy one of the most exciting stops so far. Most of the Durban heavy hitters were at the contest such as Khule Ngubane, Simon Stipcich, Braxton Haine, Martin Stoffberg, Khulu Dlamini and George van Blerk. Shuaib Philander and Alan Marola came down from Cape Town to try their luck at winning some of the 50k prize purse and a Wildcard entry.
Some amazing skating went down throughout the day. Some of the stand out tricks had to be Simon’s huge frontside flip transfer from the 8ft quarter to the back, which ended up winning him best trick, and his flip fs board down the hand rail; Shuaib’s backside noseblunt on the A-frame and flip bs tail on the mini hubba; Khulu’s wallie backside 50-50 and flip backside lip on the A-frame; Martin charging at the tranny with his huge frontside stalefish from quarter to the back. Lots more amazing skating went down, but in the end no one could match Khule Ngubane’s consistency and usage of the park, back-to-back flip front board then flip back board on the A-frame, 360 flip lipslide, to name a few, and an amazing flip noseslide bigspin out on the big hubba during the best trick.
