Swakopmund Skate Comp

Swakopmund Skate Comp

This was Swakopmund’s first skate comp and it was a great success. The comp was held at the indoor sports centre and the makeshift park was built and organized prior to the comp. Chris from inspired2become came up and three days before the comp his team and some local skaters got together to build a new funbox. Together with all the skaters in Swakopmund we managed to get a few obstacles together, and the “park” was born. The comp was a ‘jam style’ with two divisions. The ams came out first pulling some impressive tricks on the new funbox. Yannick was on fire, being very consistent. The other highlight was Sasha who picked up his board the day before the comp again for the first time in a year and pulled off a nice 50 50 on the funbox. Inbetween the heats it was one big jam session, seeing some nice skating from all who came out. In the advanced group there were enough guys to have two heats and then the final. The heats were eight minutes, sometimes ten, depending on the energy level of the skaters and how Chris was feeling. The highlights of the day had to be Dalton, the 36 year old shredder, Eike’s consistency and Izzy’s big bag of tricks. A huge thank you to all the sponsors for making the day possible, to Chris who was the MC, keeping everyone hyped with good tunes, and to all the guys who judged for us and helped set up the comp and clean. We hope this is the start of more comps in the future and hope to see some new guys coming up soon. – Kyle Cyriax
