Atiba Jefferson is a professional photographer from Colorado Springs, CO. He discovered photography in high school and quickly developed a passion for the camera. Since skateboarding was his first love it naturally became his primary subject and the focus through the lens. His desire to capture the movement of skateboarding, precisely how he saw it, pushed him to move to California and chase his dream of becoming a professional photographer. Atiba now shoots everything from skateboarding to Lakers games to portraits of world-famous musicians and athletes. This short film gives a glimpse into the crazy life of Atiba and how he became a professional photographer.

Cape Electric Tattoo Interview
We did a short interview with local Cape Town tattoo parlour Cape Electric. They’re a crew of solid individuals producing amazing tattoo work with a smile and a rad attitude. We asked Gareth and Waldo a few questions…
What is Cape Electric’s history? What is the story behind its opening?
It was a combination of things to be honest. We felt the need to create a space for ourselves with creative freedom where we can pursue our preferred styles of tattooing and also create a relaxed, comfortable and professional environment for us, our clientele and the general public. A tattoo shop wall to wall in paintings and hand-painted flash, a space where every corner would inspire us to be better at what we do and to make everybody that walks in here know they are in the right place to get a tattoo.
What is the most difficult thing about running a tattoo parlour?
Nothing is easy in tattooing.
What is one of the negative trends that are peaking in the tattoo industry at the moment?
People getting watered down ideas of tattoos, paragraphs of script, upside-down tattoos, white tattoos and tattoos that contain no black… A picture says a thousand words and it should still look good 20 years down the line.
Tattoos by Gareth Lloyd
What makes a good tattoo artist?
Dedication, hard work and sacrifice, everyday, on repeat.
Any future plans or goals for the studio? I recently saw a picture of Waldo building a mini-ramp.
Hahaha, it wasn’t a mini ramp. We put up a photo Gareth took of Waldo while doing some renovations around the shop and said he was building a mini-ramp just to get some reaction. If we had space for a mini ramp there would probably be one and none of us would work. We will just continue doing what we do best, doing tattoos and having a good time doing them. The shop has been open now for almost 3 years and we’re not going anywhere anytime soon. The shop is constantly evolving and we’re always busy with some sort of renovation or expansion.
What are some of the weirdest things you’ve tattooed/been asked to tattoo?
Vaginas. They’re not weird, just an awkward place to tattoo.
What are people’s most common questions when getting their first tattoo that you can settle right here?
“Does it hurt?” YES!
Who holds the record at the studio for tattooing the longest session? How long was it?
We don’t really keep track of that kind of stuff, as long as the tattoo looks good nothing else matters, but maybe between 5 to 6.5 hours.
Tattoos by Waldo del Rocca
Has Cape Electric been involved in things outside of the studio like the skateboarding or music industry?
Gareth sponsors a band called Truth and its Burden and other than that we sponsor Peasant and we get involved in certain music events where we can or get approached. Skateboarding has always been part of us all, but we haven’t really been active in sponsorships or events. We should be.
Any last words?
Stop thinking about it and COME GET TATTOOED!

Grahm Jam Show
In March 2014, evil forces descended upon the city of Cape Town and decided to steal all the drum equipment belonging to Graham Pitout (drummer for Take Hand and Enmity). Now for those of you who don’t know, replacing a drumkit is quite an expensive business. So we decided to help a brother out, and managed to convince some of our awesome friends to play this fundraiser show. All proceeds from the night will be going towards Graham’s new drums, so please come support!

Silverfish Kryptonics Star Trac Review
Last year, Silverfish Longboarding put Kryptonics Star Trac wheels in the top 10 longboarding products from 2013 and said “These wheels are gonna blow-up in 2014.”
Now the Silverfish crew has put Kryptonics wheels to the test, they took them to the skate parks and the streets for carving, running cones, bombing hills and full-thrash slide sessions. The reviews are in and they are stoked.

Vans presents: SOUNDCLASH
A Party Town and Psych Night event, dedicated to those that have a severe disrespect for shit music (and open to lengthly debates about what that means).
This Friday; Psych, Garage and Punk hold hands for an awkward one-two step of culture and bad romance. So, come clad the walls of The Pit with celebrations of revolt and white-boy dancing.
Helping us through this will be:
Bad Drugs – We’ve managed to stir them from their cave of noise experimentation, and fresh rumours speak of new material…
And on the DJ side:
(Resident madman) DJ HEINO
THE HOW ARE YOUS (Don’t expect them to care)
Finally, our groovy selection of Psych Night DJs, will keep you numb and moving ’til your wallet is reasonably empty.
R20 gets you in. Doors open at 8pm. And that’s about as complicated as it gets.

Painting Cape Town
There is a preview screening on Painting Cape Town on Saturday 24 May. Please message them if you would like to be there.
Painting Cape Town; Graffiti from South Africa is the first print publication to cover the graffiti subculture in Cape Town, South Africa in significant detail. The book, written by Matthew Olckers and released in 2013, includes interviews with 29 of Cape Town’s most prominent graffiti artists. Each story provides a unique insight into the rationale behind the artist’s passion and obsession for spreading their names.
During 2013, Painting Cape Town found it’s way into the hands of Katey Carson, an upcoming filmmaker. The material has inspired a documentary by the same name. Painting Cape Town, a documentary, probes deeper into the views of Cape Town’s graffiti artists. Established figures within the subculture such as Falko and Wealz130 share their experiences of the consuming passion to paint the surfaces of the city.
